Englanti yllättävän haasteellista Paavo Arhinmäelle
Vasemmistoliiton presidenttiehdokas Paavo Arhinmäki yllätti tenttaajansa MTV3:n Huomenta Suomen englanninkielisessä tentissä.
Arhinmäki ei vaikuttanut englanniksi aivan yhtä varmalta puhujalta kuin monet hänen sukupolvensa suomalaiset, toteaa tenttaajana toiminut uutistoimisto AP:n kirjeenvaihtaja David Mac Dougall.
Tässä Mac Dougallin arvio:
Paavo Arhinmäki was the eighth and final presidential candidate to appear on Huomenta Suomi to chat with us in English.
He says that the president's role in foreign policy is one of his key reasons for running. Arhinmäki admits his relative lack of experience in this area but notes that he's taken on more foreign affairs responsibilities during his time in parliament. Arhinmäki also wants to challenge perceptions that only older candidates, with decades of time in public office, can lead the country.
Speaking in a foreign language is always a challenge, especially when dealing with complex topics like international relations. I felt that Paavo Arhinmäki was not as confident as many Finns of his generation when talking in English, which surprised me slightly.
However, Arhinmäki was able to make all his points well, and importantly even tell jokes which shows he feels at ease having conversations in English.
